Privacy Policy
The short version.
- We collect what we need to run LightPlane for you, and no more.
- Your content is yours. We don't sell it, and we don't use it to train AI models.
- We measure use by the day: whether you were here, which apps you opened, how many AI requests you made. Not what you read or wrote.
- We have no advertising or analytics trackers. We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in.
- We share information only with the providers that help us run the Service, listed on our sub-processor page.
- You can see, export, correct or delete your information. Write to support@lightplane.ai.
1. Who we are
LightPlane is provided by Liquid Intelligence Inc. ("we", "us"). This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit our websites, accept an invitation, join the waitlist, build a team, or use the LightPlane workspace, apps such as News, and AI agents (the "Service").
For content that our customers put into their workspaces, including information about their own customers, clients or visitors, the customer controls that information and we process it on their behalf and under their instructions. If you're one of their contacts, please get in touch with the organization directly. We'll help them respond.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, organization, role and password (stored only in hashed form).
- Your profile: what you choose to tell us about yourself and your work, such as your role, your company, its competitors, markets and products, and the channels and topics you follow in News.
- Documents you upload to your profile, and the short summaries we make of them.
- Workspace content: the files, messages, documents, calendars, contacts, notes, highlights, saved stories, questions you ask and other data you and your team put into the Service, and what your agents create from it.
- Invitations and the waitlist: if someone invites you, they give us your name and email address. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address and how you found us.
- Build requests: the website address and email you enter to build a team.
- Billing details: your billing contact and address, and your subscription history. Card details go directly to our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Feedback and messages: what you send to support, bug reports, ratings and survey answers, and the replies.
- Your acceptance of our terms: which version of the Terms and this policy you accepted, when, and the IP address it came from.
Information we collect automatically
- Daily activity: see section 4.
- AI usage records: which feature or agent used AI, when, which model, and how much, so we can run plan limits, control cost and bill correctly.
- Security and audit records: sign-ins, failed sign-ins, permission changes and other security events, with the IP address and browser they came from. We keep them to protect your account and meet our compliance obligations.
- Server logs: requests, errors, IP address and browser type, used to run and secure the Service.
- How you arrived: when you sign up, the page or campaign that brought you (the referring site and campaign tags in the link) and any invitation or referral code.
Information from other sources
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Google or LinkedIn, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from them.
- Services you connect: if you connect an email, calendar or file account (such as Google or Microsoft 365), we access it only as you authorize, to provide the features you use.
- Your organization: if your organization uses LightPlane, its administrators may add information about the company that News reads as background for your profile.
- Your website: when you build a team, we read the public pages of the website you name (its name, pages, description and images) to set up your workspace.
3. How we use it
- To provide the Service: running your workspace, apps and agents, ranking and analyzing news against your profile, and sending the email the Service needs, such as invitations, sign-in links, reminders and receipts.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
- To bill you and manage your subscription.
- To support you and tell you about changes to the Service.
- To understand and improve the Service, as described in section 4.
- To meet legal and compliance obligations.
We send marketing email only where the law allows, and every marketing message has an unsubscribe link. Messages about your account and the Service aren't marketing, so they don't include one.
4. What we measure, and what we don't
We want to know whether LightPlane is useful, so we measure use. We do it as narrowly as we can.
- One row per person per day. For each day you use the Service, we record that you were active, the time of your first and last activity that day, which apps you opened, and how many AI requests you made. Sign-ins are recorded separately, as security records. We don't record the pages you visited, what you read, searched or wrote, or your IP address in this record.
- Satisfaction, counted, never per person. To learn whether our AI assistants are helping, conversations with them may be labelled automatically, for example as positive, neutral or negative, or as a complaint. We keep only daily totals per app or assistant. The labels are never stored with your name or account, and nobody reads your conversation to make them.
- What you choose to tell us. Feedback, bug reports, ratings and survey answers are kept with your account, because you sent them to us.
- Who sees it. A small number of our staff can see one person's activity, for support and to understand how customers use the Service. Each time they open it, the access is logged.
- What we don't do. We don't sell this information, use it for advertising, or combine it with data from other companies.
5. AI processing
When you or your agents ask for AI work, the content needed for that task is sent to an AI model provider, which processes it and returns the result. This includes your profile and documents when News reads a story for you, the text of an article when you ask about it or listen to it, and your voice when you use a voice feature. The providers we use are on our sub-processor page.
- No training. We don't use your content to train AI models. We use providers whose business terms prohibit training their models on the content we send them.
- Shared analysis, without your name. News stores its analysis of a story by the description it was written for, not by who asked. If another reader describes the same position, they may be shown the same stored analysis. It never carries your name or account.
- Your own keys. If you or your organization connect your own account with an AI provider, requests made with it are processed under your agreement with that provider.
6. Searches we make for you
To find news and public facts about the companies, competitors, markets and topics you name, we search public sources: news search engines, and public records such as Wikidata, SEC EDGAR, the Federal Register, app stores and job boards. We also check the public web pages of competitors you ask us to watch. These searches carry the name or topic only. They never carry your name, your email or your account, and one search serves every reader who named the same thing.
7. Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us run the Service, under contracts that let them use it only to provide their service to us. They are listed, with what each one processes, on our sub-processor page. In short:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| DigitalOcean | Hosting, database and file storage (New York, United States) |
| Stripe | Payment processing and billing |
| Resend, Twilio SendGrid | Delivery of account and Service email |
| AI model providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google | Carrying out the AI work you request, including speech |
| Google, LinkedIn | Sign-in, only if you choose to use them |
- Within your organization: workspace content is visible to the people and agents your organization grants access to.
- When you ask us to: for example, when you share a story or connect another service.
- For legal reasons: when required by law or valid legal process, or when needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.
- In a business transfer: if we're involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
8. Cookies
We use one cookie today: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and protects your account. It is essential, can't be read by scripts on the page, and expires after 24 hours. The Service also keeps a few preferences, such as window layouts and recently opened items, in your browser's own storage. They stay on your device.
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't sell data to advertising networks. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it does.
If we ever add a cookie that isn't essential, we'll show a notice and ask you before it is set.
9. How long we keep it
- Account and workspace content: for as long as your account is open. After it closes, we keep it for 30 days so you can retrieve it, then delete it.
- An account that lapses at the end of a free period: kept until you choose a plan or ask us to delete it. We won't delete it without emailing you at least 30 days first.
- Daily activity records: deleted automatically 25 months after the last activity they record, or sooner if you ask us to delete your account.
- Satisfaction counts: they hold no personal information, so they are kept as totals.
- Backups: our database is backed up daily, and each backup is kept for 7 days. Deleted information leaves our backups within that time.
- Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Security and audit records: as long as our security and compliance obligations require. They are kept in a tamper-resistant log and aren't used for any other purpose.
- Build requests that don't become an account: up to 12 months.
10. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit, access controls, hashed passwords, audit logging, and regular review of who can reach production systems. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Your choices and rights
You can view and update most of your information in your account. Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy in a portable format (export);
- correct it;
- delete it, along with your account;
- stop sending you marketing email, at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict some uses, and to withdraw consent you've given.
To make a request, email support@lightplane.ai. We'll confirm your identity first and respond within the time the law requires. You can use an authorized agent where the law allows. We won't treat you differently for exercising these rights.
California residents. The categories of personal information we collect are those in section 2: identifiers, account and billing records, internet activity limited to what section 4 describes, and the content you provide. We use them for the purposes in section 3. We don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
EU and UK residents. If you aren't satisfied with our response, you may complain to your data protection authority.
12. Children
The Service is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
13. Where information is processed
We're based in the United States, and we store and process information there. Our servers, database and file storage are in DigitalOcean's New York region. Some providers on our sub-processor list may process information in other countries. When we transfer personal information from other countries, we use the safeguards the law requires.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The version and date at the top show when it last changed. If we make material changes, we'll email you before they take effect and ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in.
